With Dr Alex, an aesthetic doctor who teaches doctors, dentists and nurses how to use dermal fillers.
Does this sound familiar?
Have your brows started to look different?
It may be the area around the eyebrow that has changed, rather than the eyebrow hair itself.
The practical details
Eyebrow filler at a glance
The brow shape changes during treatment. How much lift is possible depends on why it looks lower in the first place.
The result
A softer brow, with a little lift where it's possible
Filling a hollow can make the brow bone less obvious and help the eyes look less sunken.
Where volume has been lost around the outer brow, replacing it may also give the end a small lift. That can make the eye look more open.
You might want some of your old brow shape back, a little more arch, or better balance between the two sides. Dr Alex will explain which of those changes filler could make on your face. The lift is limited; the more predictable change is softening the hollow and restoring the curve over the bone.

Would this suit you?
Filler, Botox or something else?
Brows can look lower because of lost volume, muscle pull or loose skin. Dr Alex will check which is contributing before recommending treatment.
The limits of filler
It cannot remove hooded eyelid skin
Filler does not remove excess skin, restore eyebrow hair or correct a drooping eyelid muscle. If your brow is already heavy or puffy, adding volume could make that more noticeable.
Significant hooding or a markedly low brow may need a surgical opinion. Dr Alex will explain if the degree of lift you want is beyond what filler can reasonably achieve.
How it works
Restoring the shape over the brow bone
A layer of soft tissue gives the brow its curve. When that thins, the bone underneath can become more obvious.
Hyaluronic acid filler is a gel that replaces some of the lost volume. Over a hollow brow, it can soften the bony outline and make the dip into the upper eyelid less deep.
At the outer end of the eyebrow, restoring volume may also help the brow sit a little higher. How much depends on the skin and the brow's starting position.
Botox works differently: it relaxes muscles that pull the brow down. If those muscles are the main issue, filling the area won't achieve the same thing.
Your appointment
Let's look at your brows and eyes together
Tell Dr Alex what looks different and what you'd like to change. He'll examine your brows at rest and when you move them.

Why Dr Alex
Why choose Dr Alex for eyebrow filler?
Dr Alex teaches doctors, dentists and nurses across dermal filler ranges and is currently a trainer for Evolus's Estyme fillers. He's also filmed injection techniques for MaiLi's international professional audience.
With brows, he'll look at what's making your eyes look different. A hollow, a low brow and loose eyelid skin can look quite similar in the mirror, but need different treatment.
If filler could soften the hollow and give a little lift, he'll explain what he thinks is achievable. If you need more lift than it can offer, he'll tell you that too. He'd rather have that conversation before treatment than leave you wondering why your brows still look low.

Safety and recovery
Filler around the eyes needs particular care
Bruising, tenderness and swelling can occur. An uneven contour or persistent puffiness may need further assessment.
Possible side effects
Other possible problems include lumps, infection and delayed inflammatory reactions. Filler can remain in the brow region for a long time, and repeated additions may create unwanted heaviness or puffiness.
Blood vessels in this region connect with the circulation to the eye. Accidental blockage can cause skin damage or permanent sight loss; stroke is also a rare recognised complication of facial filler. These are material risks to discuss before deciding whether the potential benefit is worthwhile.
When to get urgent help
Contact SONÜ immediately if you develop unusual or increasing pain, pale skin, or a dusky or mottled colour around the treated area. Don't wait for a routine review. If you can't reach the clinic, seek urgent medical care.
Any change in vision, sudden weakness or difficulty speaking needs emergency medical help. Call 999 and tell them you've recently had dermal filler.
Severe eye pain also needs emergency assessment. Call 999 and mention the filler treatment. Contact SONÜ promptly for redness or swelling that is getting worse.
When treatment may be unsuitable
Filler is avoided during pregnancy or breastfeeding and with active infection or inflammation in the area. Tell Dr Alex about eye conditions, allergies, previous filler reactions, medicines and facial surgery. New or unexplained eyelid drooping needs medical assessment before cosmetic treatment.
You can decide against filler after discussing the benefits, risks and alternatives.
