Collagen support for the backs of your hands

Lanluma hand rejuvenation in Hale, Altrincham

Improve thin, crepey skin and restore lost cushioning on the backs of your hands, for a smoother, less bony look that develops gradually.

You catch sight of your hands on the steering wheel or holding a drink and notice how much more the tendons and veins show. The skin may look crinkly too, even when you have been fairly generous with the hand cream.

Lanluma stimulates your own collagen to improve skin quality and help restore lost volume. On the hands, that can soften the hollow, bony look and give the skin better support. The aim is hands that look healthier and smoother, while keeping their natural shape.

What have you noticed?

More hollows, more crinkles, less cushioning

The backs of the hands can change in several ways. Lanluma focuses on the skin and underlying support.

The tendons stand out more

There are deeper-looking hollows between the tendons, and the bones seem more obvious than they used to. You would like to restore some of the cushioning that has been lost.

The skin looks thin and papery

Small creases catch the light when your hands are resting, not just when you make a fist. Hand cream helps with dryness, but the skin still looks fragile.

You notice your hands in photographs

It might be a photo holding a glass, showing a ring or simply resting your hands in your lap. They look older than you expect, and you would like to soften that change.

What could change?

Softer-looking hollows and smoother skin

Lanluma can improve the look of thin skin and the hollow spaces on the backs of the hands as new collagen develops.

The aim is to soften the contrast between the tendons and the tissue around them, while improving crepey texture. It does not remove veins or alter the joints.

If brown spots are the main thing you notice, a pigment treatment may make more difference. When both colour and tissue loss are involved, Dr Alex can discuss a plan that addresses each separately.

Is Lanluma right for your hands?

Skin, volume or colour?

Dr Alex will look at whether it is the hollows, the crinkly skin or brown marks that bother you most, then explain which treatment would help.

You want to improve thin skin and hollows
Lanluma may suit a combination of crepey texture and lost tissue beneath the skin. It can work across a wider area of the back of the hand.
You are happy to wait for collagen
You would prefer gradual improvement and can allow time for the tissue to respond. If you want more immediate volume restoration, hyaluronic acid hand filler may be worth discussing.
You can plan around your hands
You will need to look after the injection sites and follow the massage advice. Tell Dr Alex about hands-on work, sport, gloves or an upcoming event so recovery can be planned sensibly.

What it will not do

Brown spots need a different treatment

Lanluma does not remove age spots, treat hand pain or get rid of veins. If a mark is new or changing, have it assessed by your GP or dermatologist before booking cosmetic treatment. Dr Alex can discuss skin-quality treatment once any medical concern has been addressed.

How Lanluma works

Building back some of the support

Lanluma contains PLLA particles, which encourage the body to produce collagen after injection.

Collagen can improve the support and quality of the tissue over the back of the hand. Where volume restoration is wanted, the gradual response can also soften hollows.

The product is mixed with fluid before treatment, so the immediate appearance includes fluid and swelling. Those settle first; the collagen develops more slowly over the following months.

Your appointment

What hand treatment involves

Dr Alex will look at the skin and tissue loss, then explain what can be improved and how to plan around recovery.

Consultation

Examine your hands

Discuss the areas you notice, any previous injections and medical problems affecting the hands. Dr Alex assesses skin quality, hollows and the structures underneath, and agrees the treatment scope and price.
Before treatment

Prepare the area

Photographs are taken and the treatment sites are cleaned. Comfort options are discussed, along with what to expect when using your hands afterwards. Mention any rings that are difficult to remove.
During treatment

Treat the backs of the hands

The product is placed with a needle or cannula in the planned tissue layer. You may feel stinging or pressure. Treatment is directed to the soft tissue, not into the joints or the veins themselves.
After your visit

Care for your hands

You will receive advice on massage, keeping the sites clean and returning to work, exercise or other activities. Further treatment is planned around how the hands settle and the response develops.

Why Dr Alex

A considered approach to hand rejuvenation

Dr Alex has previously been a Lanluma trainer and a medical advisory board member for Sinclair, and has written about its use in aesthetic treatment.

For hands, he will assess both the skin and the loss of tissue beneath it. Lanluma, hyaluronic acid filler and pigment treatment have different roles. He can explain whether collagen stimulation is likely to give the change you want or whether a more immediate volume treatment, or treatment of brown spots, would be more useful.

Safety and recovery

Plan for how you use your hands

Swelling, bruising, redness and tenderness can occur after treatment. Your hands may feel puffy or uncomfortable for a few days, so allow flexibility around demanding work or activities.

Possible side effects

Firm lumps and inflammatory nodules can develop, sometimes after a delay, and may persist or need treatment. Infection and allergic reactions are possible. Rarely, an injection can obstruct a blood vessel and damage tissue. Lanluma does not have the dissolving option available for hyaluronic acid filler.

When to get urgent help

Seek urgent medical assessment for unusual or increasing pain, pale or mottled skin, cold fingers, new numbness or difficulty moving the hand. Contact the clinic immediately; do not wait for a routine review. Increasing redness, heat, swelling or fever also needs prompt advice. Report later lumps to Dr Alex.

When treatment may not be suitable

Treatment is avoided during pregnancy or breastfeeding and with active skin infection, inflammation or an allergy to the ingredients. Tell Dr Alex about circulation problems, nerve symptoms, abnormal scarring, immune conditions, medicines and previous hand injections or surgery.

You will have a clear aftercare plan and know which changes need a call to the clinic.

Your questions

Before treating the backs of your hands

The result, timing and practical recovery all deserve a place in the decision.

Will Lanluma hide the veins on my hands?
Restoring some of the tissue around tendons and veins can make them less prominent, but Lanluma does not remove or treat the veins themselves. Dr Alex will check whether tissue loss is the reason they stand out and whether treatment would give a worthwhile improvement.
Can it remove brown spots as well?
No. Lanluma targets skin quality and tissue support, not pigmentation. IPL or another suitable skin treatment may be considered for assessed brown marks. A new, changing or unexplained mark needs medical assessment before any cosmetic treatment is planned.
How is it different from hand filler?
Hyaluronic acid hand filler replaces volume with a gel and gives a more immediate change. Lanluma stimulates collagen gradually and may suit someone wanting skin-quality improvement as well as restoration. HA filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase; Lanluma cannot.
Will my hands look puffy?
Temporary puffiness can happen after injection. The long-term aim is to restore some lost support and soften hollows, not make the hands look swollen. The amount is planned carefully, and any further treatment should allow time for the earlier response to develop.
Does hand treatment hurt?
You may feel brief stings, pressure or tenderness during treatment. Dr Alex will discuss comfort measures beforehand and check how you are doing throughout. The hands can also feel tender afterwards, particularly when using them firmly.
Can I drive or work afterwards?
That depends on comfort, swelling and what your work involves. Do not drive if you cannot grip and control the car comfortably and safely. If you use your hands heavily, wear tight gloves or do manual work, mention this at consultation so you can plan suitable time after treatment.
When will the result show?
Allow several weeks for collagen to start making a visible difference, with improvement developing over the following months. Initial fluid and swelling can make the hands look fuller sooner, but that is temporary. The gradual result is assessed after the area has settled.
How many treatments will I need?
The plan depends on how thin the tissue is, which parts of the hand need treatment and the change you want. A course may be needed. Dr Alex will explain the proposed sessions and cost, with time to assess the response before adding more.
How long will it last?
The new collagen can give an improvement that continues beyond the initial course. Hands still age and change, so further treatment may be useful later. The timing is based on how your hands look and respond, rather than a fixed repeat interval for everyone.
What aftercare will I need?
You will be shown a massage routine and told how long to follow it, along with advice on caring for the injection sites and returning to activities. Let Dr Alex know about worsening symptoms or a new lump; do not simply massage harder or wait for the next appointment.
