Shape and profile

Chin filler in Hale, Altrincham

Chin filler can bring a small or recessed chin forward, improve its shape and help your side profile look more balanced.

You might like your face from the front, then see a side-on photograph and wonder where your chin went. Or perhaps it has always felt a little short compared with the rest of your face.

Chin filler adds volume to change its projection, length or shape. Sometimes a relatively small adjustment makes the relationship between your chin, lips and nose look more balanced.

Dr Alex will ask what you'd like to change and look at your face from several angles. A stronger chin doesn't have to mean a long or pointed one.

Does this sound familiar?

A chin that feels more in proportion

The change you're after might be easiest to see from the side, or it may be the shape of your lower face from the front.

Your chin sits back in profile

Your lips or nose look more prominent beside a chin that sits further back. You'd like to bring the chin forward and improve the balance of your profile.

The lower part of your face feels short

You'd like a little more length or definition below your mouth. The aim may be a subtle adjustment that gives the lower face more shape.

You want a different chin shape

Perhaps your chin looks narrow, rounded or uneven, and you'd prefer a different outline. You can discuss width and shape as well as how far it projects.

Looking from every angle

A side profile you feel happier with

Chin filler can improve projection and shape, changing how the chin sits alongside your lips, nose and jawline.

Bringing the chin forward can make the profile look more balanced without changing the nose or lips themselves. Adding length or width creates a different effect, so it helps to be specific about what you like.

You might want a stronger chin, a softer outline or a change that makes your face look more masculine or feminine. Dr Alex will discuss your preference and assess how a change to the chin would work with the rest of your face.

Is filler the right option?

Chin shape and jaw position are different

Filler can change the appearance of the chin. Dr Alex will also check whether the concern involves the underlying jaw or bite.

You want more chin projection
A small or mildly recessed chin may benefit from added volume. The amount of change possible depends on your starting shape and the surrounding tissues.
You want to refine the outline
A change in width, length or a small contour difference may be suitable for filler. Dr Alex will explain what can be improved without making the chin too prominent elsewhere.
You have noticed a loss of definition
Age-related volume and tissue changes can affect the chin. He'll assess those alongside the jawline, rather than assuming every lower-face change needs more filler.

When another approach is needed

Filler cannot correct a bite problem

Filler does not move the jawbone or change how your teeth meet. A markedly recessed jaw or a bite concern may need a dental or surgical assessment.

It also does not remove a double chin. If the main issue is fat, loose skin or dimpling when the chin muscle contracts, another treatment may be more suitable.

How chin filler works

Adding volume changes the outline

An injectable hyaluronic acid gel adds shape to the chin tissues.

The gel holds volume for a time and gradually breaks down. Dr Alex selects a filler with properties suited to the support and shape needed in the chin.

Where that volume is added affects whether the chin projects further, looks longer or has a different width. The plan is based on your face and preferred appearance, rather than a standard chin shape or a measurement everyone has to match.

Your appointment

Talk through what you'd like to change

Dr Alex will assess your chin in person, from the front and side. You can explain what bothers you, and he'll help you work out which changes would give the result you're after.

At consultation

Compare the front and profile

Dr Alex will ask what bothers you and examine your chin, lips and jawline. He'll check your medical history, allergies, medicines and any existing filler.
Before treatment

Discuss the shape

You'll talk through projection, length and width, along with the proposed amount, risks and cost. If filler cannot give the change you want, he'll explain why.
During treatment

Build the agreed contour

The filler is placed using a needle, cannula or a combination suited to the area. The HA gel contains lidocaine to help with discomfort; additional numbing can be discussed if needed.
After treatment

Allow the chin to settle

You'll receive aftercare instructions and advice on when to judge the result. Further filler in the same area is considered only after at least a month and reassessment. Contact SONÜ sooner with any concern.

Why Dr Alex

Experience with filler and facial proportions

Dr Alex teaches doctors, dentists and nurses across several filler ranges and is currently a trainer for Evolus's Estyme range. His experience also includes helping launch fillers in the UK and contributing to international clinician education for MaiLi.

For your chin, he'll consider how changing one dimension affects the others. Bringing it forward is different from making it longer, and a result that looks good in profile also needs to suit your face from the front.

You can discuss the shape you prefer without being steered towards a pointed chin or a particular fashion.

Side effects and suitability

What should you know before chin filler?

The chin may feel tender or firm after treatment. Swelling, redness and bruising are possible, and the early outline may look uneven.

Possible side effects

Persistent lumps, unevenness, infection, allergic reactions and filler moving from its intended position can occur. Inflammatory swelling can also develop later. Contact SONÜ about symptoms that persist, worsen or appear after the area has settled.

Rarely, filler can interrupt the blood supply and damage skin or other tissue. Serious complications can include permanent sight loss or stroke. Dr Alex will explain these risks before treatment.

When to get urgent help

Contact SONÜ immediately for unusual or increasing pain, pale skin, or dusky or mottled skin after filler. If you cannot reach the clinic, seek urgent medical care.

A change in vision, sudden weakness or difficulty speaking needs emergency help. Call 999 and tell them you have recently had dermal filler.

When filler may need to wait

Treatment should wait during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and while there is an active infection or broken or inflamed skin around the chin. Tell Dr Alex about allergies, previous filler reactions, health conditions, medicines and any recent or planned dental work. These can affect suitability and timing.

You can ask questions, take time to think or decide against treatment.

A few more questions

Questions about chin filler

Projection, proportions and what filler can change.

Will chin filler make my chin pointy?
That is not an inevitable result. Projection, length and width can be considered separately. Tell Dr Alex if you want to keep a softer outline; he'll assess how to improve the shape without creating a point you do not want.
Can chin filler make my nose look smaller?
It does not change the nose. Bringing a recessed chin forward can change the balance of the side profile, which may make the nose seem less dominant. Dr Alex will assess whether that applies to your face.
Does it get rid of a double chin?
No. Filler adds volume to the chin and does not remove fat beneath it. Better chin projection may improve the outline in some faces, but a double chin needs its own assessment.
Is chin filler the same as Botox for a dimpled chin?
No. Filler changes volume and shape. Botox relaxes the chin muscle when its contraction creates a pebbled or dimpled appearance. Dr Alex will check which is causing the change you've noticed.
How much filler will I need?
There is no useful one-size-fits-all amount. A small shape adjustment and a more recessed chin need different plans. Dr Alex will recommend the amount after examining you and explain whether the change should be built over separate treatments.
Will it feel hard?
The chin can feel firm or tender at first because of the gel and swelling. The product is chosen to give structure in this area. Contact Dr Alex if you notice a persistent lump, worsening tenderness or a new change after settling.
Does chin filler hurt?
You may feel stinging, pressure or tenderness. The HA filler Dr Alex uses contains lidocaine to help with comfort. Extra numbing is not routinely needed for the chin, but can be discussed if you need it.
How long does chin filler last?
Dr Alex's usual guide is 12-18 months of visible results, depending on the product, amount and your response. Filler can remain after the most obvious effect fades. He assesses what is still present before advising on another treatment.
Can I have more if I want a stronger result?
Possibly, after reassessment. Dr Alex leaves at least a month before considering additional filler in the same area, so the first treatment has time to settle. More volume is recommended only if it would improve the result.
Can chin filler be dissolved?
HA filler can be treated with hyaluronidase to break it down. Dissolving has its own risks, including allergic reactions, and may take more than one treatment. It should not be regarded as a guaranteed undo button.
