Definition and lower-face shape

Jawline filler in Hale, Altrincham

Jawline filler can restore definition, create sharper jaw angles and blend the hollows beside jowls, helping your jawline look straighter and more defined.

Perhaps your jawline used to look sharper, and now a few dips and jowls interrupt its outline. Or you've always wanted a stronger jaw, with more definition when you turn your head.

Filler can restore some of the contour lost with age, smooth an uneven jawline or add width and sharper angles. Dr Alex will assess your face and discuss which changes would create the appearance you want.

That might be a more masculine or feminine look, or simply recognising the jawline you used to have.

The outline you notice

More definition when you turn your head

You don't need to want a dramatic jawline. Sometimes you just miss being able to see it as clearly.

Your jawline has lost its edge

The border of your lower face looks less defined than it used to. You'd like to restore some shape, especially from the side or in photographs.

You would like a stronger jaw

Your jaw has always been less angular. You'd prefer a more defined outline, with the degree of width and strength chosen to suit your taste.

Jowls interrupt the line of your jaw

The dips beside your jowls make the jawline look less straight. You'd like to blend that uneven contour so the jowls are less obvious.

The shape you want

A straighter jawline and sharper definition

Filler can define the jaw border, sharpen its angles and blend hollows that make jowls stand out.

Blending a hollow beside a jowl can make the jawline look straighter. The jowl is still there, but the change in contour can make it less noticeable.

You may want more width or a stronger angle at the back of the jaw. Or you may simply want to restore an outline that has become less defined with age. Dr Alex will look at the jaw and chin together and explain how each change would affect the appearance of your lower face.

Would jawline filler help?

Why has the jawline become less defined?

The answer affects whether adding filler will improve the outline or simply add volume where you do not need it.

The jaw needs more structure
A naturally less defined border may suit added volume. Dr Alex will assess the jaw angle, width and chin together to work out where that volume would be useful.
Hollows make your jowls stand out
Where jowling is mild, adding support in the dips beside it can make the jawline appear straighter. Dr Alex will check whether this would improve your contour without adding unwanted bulk.
You want to restore some shape
The jawbone changes with age, as do the fat and other tissues around it. Filler can help restore some of the resulting loss of contour. He'll assess those changes alongside the skin's firmness.

Filler and sagging

Heavier jowls may need another approach

Camouflaging a jowl is different from removing it. Where there is significant sagging, heavy tissue or a double chin, filler may not give enough improvement and could add unwanted weight to the appearance.

Dr Alex will explain when skin tightening, fat reduction or a surgical opinion would be more useful.

How it works

Building definition along the jaw border

Hyaluronic acid filler adds volume in the tissues around the jaw to change the visible contour.

The gel adds support in the soft tissues and gradually breaks down over time. It can compensate for some changes in the visible jawline caused by ageing, including changes in the underlying bone, but does not regenerate or replace that bone.

Its position and amount affect whether the result adds width, sharpens an angle or blends a hollow. Botox works on muscle activity, while fat-reduction treatments reduce tissue; they address different reasons for a less defined jawline.

Your appointment

Decide how much definition you would like

Dr Alex will assess your jawline in person. Tell him whether you miss its earlier shape, want sharper angles or are mainly bothered by jowls.

Consultation

Find the cause of lost definition

He'll examine your chin, jawline and the tissues beneath it, ask about your health and previous filler, and discuss which parts of the outline you want to change.
Before treatment

Agree the contour and cost

You'll discuss where filler could help, how much is proposed and the likely result. Risks, recovery and costs are explained before you choose whether to proceed.
Treatment

Treat the agreed areas

Dr Alex may use a needle, a cannula or both. The HA gel contains lidocaine to help with discomfort. You may feel pressure or stinging, and extra numbing can be considered if needed.
Afterwards

Let the outline settle

Follow the aftercare instructions and allow swelling to reduce. If you are considering more filler, Dr Alex waits at least a month before reassessing for further treatment in the same area.

Why choose Dr Alex?

Filler experience and a plan for your face

Dr Alex teaches doctors, dentists and nurses how to carry out dermal filler treatments. His experience spans several ranges, including his current trainer role for Evolus's Estyme fillers. He has also helped launch filler products in the UK.

For the jawline, he will assess whether the missing definition comes from the underlying shape, a loss of volume, or tissue sitting over the jaw border. That helps establish whether filler is likely to give you the improvement you want.

He'll discuss the amount of angle and width you prefer. You do not need to want the same jawline as the person in the next appointment.

Side effects and suitability

What should you know before jawline filler?

Tenderness, swelling, redness and bruising can occur. The jawline may initially feel firm or look wider and less even while it settles.

Possible side effects

Persistent lumps, unevenness, infection, allergic reactions and filler moving from its intended position can occur. Inflammatory swelling can also develop later. Contact SONÜ about symptoms that persist, worsen or appear after the area has settled.

Rarely, filler can interrupt the blood supply and damage skin or other tissue. Serious complications can include permanent sight loss or stroke. Dr Alex will explain these risks before treatment.

When to get urgent help

Contact SONÜ immediately for unusual or increasing pain, pale skin, or dusky or mottled skin after filler. If you cannot reach the clinic, seek urgent medical care.

A change in vision, sudden weakness or difficulty speaking needs emergency help. Call 999 and tell them you have recently had dermal filler.

When filler may need to wait

Treatment should wait during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and while there is an active infection or broken or inflamed skin around the jawline. Tell Dr Alex about allergies, previous filler reactions, health conditions, medicines and any recent or planned dental work. These can affect suitability and timing.

You can ask questions, take time to think or decide against treatment.

Your questions

Questions about jawline filler

Jowls, jaw angles and the amount of change you can expect.

Will jawline filler make my face look square?
It can add width or emphasise the jaw angle, but that is not everyone's aim. Dr Alex will discuss the outline you prefer and whether filler can create it without adding unwanted bulk.
Can it get rid of jowls?
It can make some jowls less obvious by blending the hollows beside them, giving the impression of a straighter jawline. It does not remove the jowl. Heavier jowls or significant loose skin may need a different treatment.
Will it make my double chin smaller?
No. Jawline filler adds shape and does not reduce fat beneath the chin. If fat is hiding the jaw border, Dr Alex will assess it separately before recommending treatment.
Do I need chin filler as well?
Not automatically. The chin and jawline meet, so Dr Alex assesses them together. Chin filler may help if its shape interrupts the result you want, but any additional treatment and cost should have a clear purpose.
Is jawline filler the same as masseter Botox?
No. Jawline filler adds volume and definition. Masseter Botox relaxes the chewing muscles and can reduce their size when enlarged. A patient wanting a narrower jaw is making a different request from someone wanting a stronger jaw border.
How much jawline filler will I need?
The length of the area does not tell you the amount needed on its own. Your existing shape, previous filler and desired result all contribute. Dr Alex will recommend an amount after examining you; you do not need to order a number of syringes first.
How long does the result last?
Dr Alex usually gives 12-18 months as a guide to visible results from HA filler. This depends on the product, amount and your response. He checks the remaining shape and filler before recommending another treatment.
Can I return to normal activities afterwards?
Most people can carry on with ordinary daily activities, although bruising and swelling may be visible. Exercise and pressure on the treated area need more care. Follow the specific aftercare instructions you are given.
Will the jawline feel firm?
It may feel firm or tender initially. The gel is intended to provide structure, but a persistent lump, increasing pain or a later change should be checked. Do not try to massage the filler into a different position yourself.
Can jawline filler be dissolved?
HA filler can be broken down with hyaluronidase after assessment. Dissolving has its own risks and does not guarantee an exact return to the previous appearance. It is a treatment decision in its own right.
