I’m Dr Alexander Parys — Dr Alex to most people — a GMC-registered doctor and founder of SONÜ Medical Aesthetics in Hale, Cheshire.

My journey into Medical Aesthetics is a very personal one, close to my heart and helped shape the clinic to what it is today - and it all started with my Mum...

Why SONÜ exists

It started with my Mum...

My route into aesthetic medicine was personal. My mum had filler placed beneath her eyes using a product that was normally used in the cheeks. She developed persistent swelling and, when she needed help, the aftercare simply was not good enough.

That experience made me very clear about the kind of clinic I wanted to create: one where you are properly assessed, the risks and limits are discussed, and the care does not end as soon as you leave the room.

But it was not only the complications: at several clinics she felt rushed through, barely listened to and rather too much like the next person on a conveyor belt.

I remember thinking that it could all have been planned better, explained better and managed better. The problem was not aesthetics itself. It was what can happen when product choice, anatomy, judgement, time and aftercare do not get the attention they deserve.

SONÜ grew from that idea. No dramatic promises. No pressure to have more. No disappearing act if you have a question afterwards. Just thoughtful medical aesthetics, carefully delivered.

Our treatment rule

Every plan has to pass the Mum Test

It's really simple:

“Would I recommend this treatment, with this product and this plan, to my own Mum?”
  • Is it genuinely right for this person?
  • Is it the safest sensible option?
  • Would less treatment be the better treatment?
  • Would I still recommend it if there were no sale attached?

If the answer is not a clear yes, we reassess. Sometimes good care means a different plan. Sometimes it means no treatment at all.

The Mum test

Why this matters to you

It isn't complicated. If I wouldn't feel comfortable recommending something to my own mum, I won't recommend it to you - simple!

1

You are listened to first

We start with what you notice, what you want to keep and what you definitely do not want. The treatment menu comes later

2

You get an honest answer

If I don't think something will help, or I think you're better leaving it alone, I'll tell you - even if you came in ready to pay for it

3

You should still look like you

The aim is fresher, better rested or more balanced. My aim is for people to think you look well, not to spot what you've had done

4

You remain supported

You can ask questions before treatment, contact us afterwards and come back for a review if needed. Aftercare isn't an afterthought

Meet Dr Alex

Serious about medicine. Less serious about myself.

I began studying medicine in 2004, qualified from the University of Sheffield in 2010 and spent the next nine years working in the NHS, including as a Specialist Registrar in Emergency Medicine and Clinical Radiology. It taught me to assess properly, stay calm when things are not straightforward and never become casual about risk. Those habits have followed me into every consultation.

I started practising aesthetic medicine in 2016. Patients often describe me as a perfectionist with an artistic eye. I will take that - although Brett, our Clinic Manager, might add that I refuse to rush a treatment simply because the diary says I should have finished five minutes ago. He is usually right about the time. I am usually still going to finish the treatment properly.

Now I treat patients, train doctors, dentists and nurses, and speak at aesthetic medicine events in the UK and internationally. I have presented at meetings including AMWC Monaco and BCAM, and I was named Rising Star of the Year at the 2021 Aesthetics Awards.

My clinical interests include natural facial rejuvenation, injectable treatments, skin quality, CO2 laser resurfacing and combining treatments thoughtfully - rather than collecting procedures for the sake of it.

Most of all, I like the bit that cannot be reduced to a treatment list: working out what will make a meaningful difference to a person, while knowing when to leave well alone.

Extra things worth knowing

Yes. SONÜ was founded and is medically directed by Dr Alex. Every clinician’s name, role and qualifications should be clear before you book or have treatment.

No. In fact, you do not need to arrive with a treatment name at all. Tell us what you have noticed, what you would like to keep and what you are unsure about. We will assess you and talk through sensible options – including no treatment where appropriate.

Yes. If the likely benefit is too small, the trade-off is wrong, another option makes more sense or you simply do not need treatment, I will say so. A consultation is for making a good decision, not completing a sale.

It means a result that works with your proportions, expressions and age. You may look fresher, better rested or more balanced, but you should still look like yourself. Natural does not mean “do nothing”; it means knowing what to do, how much to do and when to stop.

SONÜ Medical Aesthetics is at 34 Hale Road, Hale, Cheshire WA14 2EX. We welcome patients from Hale, Altrincham, Wilmslow, Cheshire, Greater Manchester and further afield.
