What you notice
Dimples that come and go with expression
An overactive chin can show itself in a few different ways.
At a glance
The details you'll want to know
A treatment for muscle-related puckering, also called mentalis Botox.
What to expect
Less puckering when your mouth moves
The biggest difference is usually in the texture that appears as the chin muscle contracts.
A smoother-looking surface can make the chin look less tense during expression. Dr Alex will compare its appearance at rest and in movement so you know which dimples treatment is intended to soften.
A natural cleft, a scar or a fixed crease has a different cause. Those features should not be expected to disappear when the muscle relaxes.

Treatment focus
Smoothing is different from changing the chin shape
Chin Botox does not add projection or remove fat under the chin. If your main concern is your profile or a double chin, Dr Alex will discuss the options that address that instead.
How it works
The muscle beneath those small dimples
The mentalis is the chin muscle that helps raise the lower lip and wrinkle the skin over the chin.
When it contracts strongly, the skin can bunch into an uneven, pebbled texture. Botulinum toxin temporarily reduces that contraction so the surface puckers less.
The mentalis also helps the lower lip function. Dr Alex looks at lip closure and movement when planning treatment, rather than judging the chin from a still photograph alone.

Relax, pout, and show us what you mean
Seeing the texture change helps Dr Alex identify which part is caused by the muscle.

Why Dr Alex?
Smoother texture starts with understanding the movement
Dr Alex teaches doctors, dentists and nurses how to use botulinum toxin, drawing on his work in clinic and professional education. He has also presented on toxin treatments at Aesthetic Medicine North and at UK and international professional meetings.
A dimpled chin needs more than a glance at the skin. The muscle underneath also helps your lower lip move and your lips meet. Dr Alex assesses those movements together, so the discussion covers both the texture you want to smooth and what your chin muscle is doing for you. If you want a change in shape or projection as well, he will explain the separate options.

Safety
What side effects are possible?
The chin muscle works closely with the lower lip, so function is checked as well as appearance.
Possible side effects
Small injection marks, tenderness and bruising may occur. Treatment can affect lower-lip movement or create an uneven smile if neighbouring muscles are affected. Uneven relaxation can leave an area that still puckers or bulges. You may also notice difficulty bringing the lips together, drinking or making certain sounds.
Unwanted muscle effects are temporary but can take weeks or longer to wear off. Contact SONÜ if you notice difficulty using your lower lip or an unexpected change in movement.
When to seek urgent help
Seek urgent medical attention for difficulty swallowing or breathing, widespread weakness or signs of a severe allergic reaction. These reactions are rare.
When treatment may not be suitable
Botulinum toxin is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Tell Dr Alex about previous toxin reactions, muscle or nerve conditions, swallowing difficulties and all medicines you take. Infection in the treatment area needs to resolve first.
Dr Alex checks chin activity and lip closure before deciding whether treatment is suitable.
Treatment pricing
Dimpled chin treatment costs
Botox for a dimpled chin counts as one area and costs £200. Two areas cost £280, three £350 and four £430. Dr Alex will confirm your plan before treatment.
