For that extra chin

Double-chin fat-dissolving injections in Hale, Altrincham

Reduce that stubborn double chin without surgery or trying to slim down everywhere else.

It might be the extra chin in a photo someone else has taken, or the bit under your jaw that never seems to shift. You'd like less of it, without having to lose weight from your cheeks and everywhere else.

Dr Alex usually treats double chins with Celluform+, fat-dissolving injections designed for this area. They break down the treated fat cells so your body can clear them. The healing response can also stimulate collagen, helping the skin firm up as the fat reduces.

What bothers you

When your extra chin gets in the photograph

You might barely think about it in the mirror, then notice it immediately in a photo or on a video call.

You know your good angle

Camera a bit higher, chin a bit further forward. If you've got that routine down, you'll know the difference you'd like treatment to make: less of the fat under your chin, even when you're not posing.

It's there even when you're slimmer

Your clothes fit, you're comfortable with your weight, but the double chin remains. You don't want to keep losing weight from everywhere else in the hope that this bit eventually joins in.

You want your jawline back

There seems to be more under your chin than there used to be, and it's hiding the outline of your jaw. You'd like to know how much of that is fat that can be treated.

The result

Less double chin, in the angles that bother you

The change you're looking for might be as straightforward as seeing less of that bulge in a side-on photo and more of the jawline above it.

As the fat reduces, the area beneath your chin can look slimmer and sit more neatly beneath your jaw.

The result develops over weeks rather than appearing the moment you leave. Once the swelling has gone down, photographs taken in the same position make it easier to see what's changed.

Is it right for you?

Is it fat, loose skin, or a bit of both?

You don't need to diagnose your double chin. Dr Alex will examine the area and explain what treatment could change.

There's a pocket of fat to reduce
You have fat beneath the skin that can be treated. Dr Alex assesses how much is there and how far it extends, then plans around the change you'd like to see.
The skin can tighten around it
Some firming can accompany fat reduction. If the skin is already very loose, Dr Alex will discuss whether extra skin tightening or a different treatment would give you a better result.
You can plan around some swelling
You don't need a surgical recovery, but your chin can look temporarily bigger. Leave some space around important photographs, presentations or events while it settles.

Looking at your profile

Sometimes the chin itself needs attention

A smaller or recessed chin can make a double chin more noticeable. If chin shape or substantial loose skin is the main issue, fat reduction alone may not give you enough change. Dr Alex can explain whether chin filler, skin tightening or a surgical opinion would be more useful.

How it works

What Celluform+ does beneath your chin

Celluform+ is a fat-dissolving injectable used to reduce suitable fat beneath the chin. It treats the pocket itself, rather than making you lose weight overall.

The treatment breaks down fat-cell membranes. Your body clears the damaged cells, while the local healing response can encourage collagen formation and firming in the supporting tissue. This is also why swelling is part of the process.

Celluform+ doesn't build up your chin like filler. It reduces fat, allowing more of your own shape to show.

Your appointment

What happens when you come in?

Bring a photo that shows what bothers you, if you have one. It's often easier than trying to explain a particular angle.

Consultation

Examine the whole profile

Dr Alex assesses the fat, skin and chin shape, checks your medical history and discusses the change you want. You'll talk about likely sessions, swelling and the total cost.
Preparation

Map the pocket to treat

The treatment area is marked and cleaned. Dr Alex explains the Celluform+ plan and comfort measures, and answers any remaining questions before starting.
Treatment

Place the injections

Small injections place Celluform+ into the agreed fat pocket. You may feel stinging or warmth; Dr Alex will explain the comfort measures used and what to expect afterwards.
Recovery and review

Let the swelling settle

Follow your aftercare and give the area time to respond. Further treatment is considered after reviewing the change, rather than deciding from the swollen appearance straight afterwards.

Why Dr Alex

Why choose Dr Alex for double-chin treatment?

Dr Alex has taught fat-dissolving treatments as a medical trainer for Healthxchange Academy and presented 'Double-chin and tonic' at Aesthetic Medicine Live in London.

He usually chooses Celluform+ under the chin because, in his experience, it gives better results in this area with more comfortable injections and less swelling and downtime than Aqualyx. Aqualyx remains his preferred option for body fat pockets.

He also knows that taking away more fat isn't always the answer. He'll look at your skin and chin shape alongside the fat, so the plan is aimed at a result you'll actually like.

Safety and recovery

Your chin may look bigger before it looks smaller

Swelling is expected after Celluform+ and can be noticeable beneath the chin. Tenderness, bruising, numbness and temporary firmness can also occur.

Possible side effects

Allow time for recovery rather than booking immediately before an important event. Some firmness or altered sensation can last beyond the most visible swelling.

Less common complications include infection, persistent lumps, uneven reduction, skin injury or scarring. Irritation or injury to nearby nerves can affect your smile, and swallowing problems can occur. Dr Alex will discuss the risks of the particular product and plan before treatment.

When to get urgent help

Seek urgent medical help for difficulty swallowing or rapidly increasing neck swelling; call 999 if breathing is affected. Contact the clinic promptly for a new uneven smile, severe or worsening pain, fever, spreading redness, blistering or unusual pale or dark skin changes. A severe allergic reaction also needs emergency help.

When treatment may not be suitable

Treatment is deferred in pregnancy or while breastfeeding, and if the area is infected. Tell Dr Alex about swallowing problems, allergies, medicines, bleeding problems, neck surgery and previous treatments. An unexplained lump under your chin needs medical assessment, not fat-dissolving injections.

Your consultation is a chance to understand the options. You don't have to decide on treatment that day.

Your questions

Double-chin fat-dissolving FAQs

From the product choice to the practicalities of having treatment.

Can I have a double chin even if I'm slim?
Yes. Where you carry fat is partly inherited, and a pocket can remain beneath the chin at a healthy, stable weight. Chin shape and skin looseness can also contribute to the appearance. Dr Alex will check which factors matter in your case.
Why does Dr Alex prefer Celluform+ to Aqualyx for double chins?
In his experience, Celluform+ gives better results beneath the chin, with more comfortable injections and less swelling and downtime than Aqualyx. That's why it is his usual choice for this area. He can use Aqualyx under the chin, but generally prefers it for body fat pockets. Celluform+ still causes swelling, so some recovery time needs planning.
How swollen will I be, and can I go to work?
Your chin can look noticeably bigger at first. Many people can carry on with ordinary activities, but may prefer a quieter diary while the swelling is visible. Allow around two weeks for it to settle; some people need longer. If you work on camera or have an important event, mention it when planning treatment.
How many sessions will I need, and when will I see a difference?
It depends on how much fat is there and how much change you'd like. A course may be needed, with improvement developing over the weeks after treatment. Dr Alex will give you an estimate after examining your chin and review your progress before recommending more. The first swollen days won't show the final result.
Is the result permanent?
The fat cells destroyed by treatment are cleared from the area, so the reduction can be long-lasting. Remaining fat cells can still get bigger with weight gain, and your skin continues to age. Keeping your weight fairly stable helps maintain the improvement.
Will I be left with loose skin where the fat was?
Not necessarily. The healing response can stimulate collagen and help the tissue firm up as the fat reduces, allowing the skin to settle around the smaller pocket. How much it tightens depends on your skin to begin with. If you already have a lot of sagging, Dr Alex will discuss whether additional skin tightening or another approach would give you a better result.
Is fat dissolving better than HIFU for a double chin?
When there is a larger treatable fat pocket, Dr Alex may favour injections because he would expect a greater reduction per session than with HIFU. That may mean reaching the desired change in fewer sessions, but it also means accepting swelling. HIFU may be considered when avoiding injections or addressing skin looseness is a greater priority. The right choice depends on what is creating the fullness.
Can you treat jowls as well?
Sometimes, if there is suitable local fat contributing to the jowl. Many jowls are mainly caused by sagging tissue, so removing fat could make the appearance worse. Dr Alex will assess this separately; the chin-and-jowl price doesn't mean everyone should have both treated.
Is Celluform+ the same as Belkyra or Kybella?
They are different products used for a similar aim: reducing fat beneath the chin. Belkyra and Kybella are brand names for a deoxycholic acid injectable that you may have seen online. Dr Alex usually uses Celluform+ at SONÜ. If you've been researching Belkyra or Kybella, you're looking at the same treatment goal, but the number of visits and swelling can differ between products.
Can I treat my double chin without losing weight from my face?
Yes, treatment can target suitable fat beneath your chin without setting out to slim your cheeks or the rest of your body. That can be useful if you're happy with your weight but this one area bothers you. It is different from weight loss with GLP-1 medicines, which can also reduce facial volume - often referred to as 'Ozempic face'. Fat dissolving is for local shaping, not a replacement for medically needed weight-loss treatment.
