Smoother thighs and bum

ONDA Coolwaves cellulite treatment in Hale, Altrincham

Soften the look of dimples and orange-peel skin on your thighs and bum, with a needle-free treatment that fits around your normal day.

Cellulite has a habit of becoming more noticeable just when you're getting ready to wear less. Shorts for a hot day, a bikini for a holiday, or the changing-room mirror after the gym can suddenly draw your eye to the backs of your legs.

ONDA Coolwaves works beneath the skin to improve that uneven texture and encourage firmer skin. The treatment uses controlled warmth with built-in cooling, without injections or cuts. A course can make dimpling less obvious, so you feel happier getting your legs out.

ONDA and subcision with Lanluma are available at SONÜ, allowing Dr Alex to match the treatment to your type of dimpling.

Does this sound familiar?

It is often the texture that bothers you

Cellulite can show up on slim, strong legs too. Wanting to smooth it doesn't necessarily mean wanting to lose weight or change your size.

Dimples on the backs of your thighs

You catch them in a mirror or a photo, even though they are barely noticeable from another angle. Bright light from a window or changing-room lights can make the unevenness stand out.

Orange-peel skin on your bum

The skin looks bumpy or puckered, even when you're standing normally. You may like your shape and simply want the surface to look smoother.

The shorts stay in the drawer

You've bought them, tried them on, then reached for something longer. You'd like to put them on without immediately checking the backs of your legs.

What can change?

Dimples that draw less of your attention

The aim is a more even surface across the treated area, with less obvious puckering and orange-peel texture.

ONDA can help soften widespread dimpling and improve mild skin looseness. The change is usually gradual: it may become easier to see by comparing photographs taken in the same position and light.

Some deeper dimples are held down by tight bands beneath the skin. Those can need a different approach, even when the skin around them improves. The consultation helps establish how much of your cellulite ONDA is likely to address.

Choosing the right treatment

The pattern of your cellulite makes a difference

Dr Alex looks at the dimples, the skin around them and the shape you want to keep as well as what you want to change.

You have a wider patch of uneven skin
ONDA can be useful when several small dimples or a rippled texture spread across the thighs or bum. Treatment works across the selected patch rather than injecting each individual dip.
You would prefer a non-invasive option
If cuts, needles or a bruised recovery period put you off, ONDA offers a different route. You can usually carry on with normal daily life while the course does its work.
You want smoother skin, not a different body
Tell Dr Alex if you like the fullness of your bum and want to preserve it. ONDA can affect fat as well as skin, so the treatment needs to suit that aim.

Getting the choice right

A few deep dents may need targeted treatment

Where a tight band is pulling the skin down into a distinct dimple, subcision may be more useful. This releases the tether beneath the skin and can be combined with Lanluma where appropriate. ONDA, subcision and collagen-stimulating treatment do different jobs; your plan should reflect what is causing the unevenness.

How ONDA works

Working underneath the orange-peel texture

Cellulite involves the arrangement of fat and the bands of connective tissue beneath the skin. It is not simply a layer of excess fat.

ONDA Coolwaves delivers controlled microwave energy into this tissue. The heat acts on fat and the collagen framework around it, encouraging remodelling that can make the surface look smoother and firmer. Cooling at the handpiece helps protect the skin and keep treatment comfortable.

Nothing is injected and there is no incision. The changes develop as the treated tissue responds over the following weeks.

Your visit

From looking at the dimples to planning your course

There is no need to know which treatment you want before you come in. Start with what you have noticed.

At consultation

Assess the skin and shape

Dr Alex examines the area, including how the dimples look when you are standing. You can point out the ones that bother you most and explain whether you want any change in size as well as texture.
Before the session

Mark out the treatment

Your practitioner agrees the coverage, checks the skin and records photographs. Treating both thighs or a larger patch of cellulite may count as more than one area; you will know what is included before you book.
During treatment

Warmth with surface cooling

The handpiece moves across the selected area. You should feel warmth rather than having to grit your teeth. Keep your practitioner updated if any part feels uncomfortable so they can adjust or pause.
Across the course

Let the improvement build

You can normally get on with your day afterwards. Follow the aftercare advice and allow time between appointments, with progress assessed across the course rather than expecting every dimple to change after one visit.

Why Dr Alex

More than one way to treat cellulite

Dr Alex offers both ONDA and subcision with Lanluma at SONÜ. That is useful because a broad patch of orange-peel skin and a few deep, tethered dimples may need different treatments.

He has also been a trainer for Sinclair, whose treatments include the collagen stimulator Lanluma. At consultation, he can explain where a device treatment is likely to help, when releasing a dimple may be more useful, and how either approach fits with the shape you want to keep.

Safety and recovery

What to expect after your session

The skin may look pink and feel warm or tender for a short time. Some people develop swelling, bruising, temporary numbness or firm areas beneath the skin.

Possible side effects

Firm lumps can take weeks or months to settle and can occasionally persist. Burns, blisters and lasting skin changes are also possible. Your practitioner monitors the treatment and your comfort throughout; tell them immediately if the heat becomes uncomfortable.

When to get urgent help

Get in touch promptly if pain increases, blisters appear or the skin becomes markedly discoloured. Spreading redness, fever or feeling unwell needs urgent medical advice. If the clinic is unavailable, contact NHS 111.

When treatment should wait or be avoided

ONDA is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or with certain electronic implants such as a pacemaker. Open wounds, infection, poor sensation, significant circulation problems and implants in the treatment area need careful assessment. Your medicines, medical conditions and previous procedures must be discussed first.

You will receive aftercare advice and a plan suited to the area being treated.

Your questions

Cellulite, courses and getting on with life

These are useful things to know when weighing up ONDA against other options.

Does ONDA get rid of cellulite completely?
It can make cellulite less noticeable, but completely smooth skin is not a realistic promise. The best aim is a visible improvement in the texture that bothers you. Some dimples respond better than others, particularly when the skin is tightly tethered underneath.
I am slim and exercise. Can ONDA still help?
Yes, you can have cellulite at a healthy weight and with strong muscles. Treatment depends on the tissue and pattern of dimpling, rather than how much exercise you do. Dr Alex will assess whether ONDA can improve it without reducing volume you would prefer to keep.
Does cellulite treatment with ONDA hurt?
Most people find it comfortable. There is warmth beneath the cooled handpiece as it moves over the area. Sensitivity varies from place to place, so tell your practitioner if the heat feels too strong; the treatment can be adjusted.
Can I return to work straight afterwards?
Usually, yes. There are no injection sites or cuts to look after, and you can normally return to your everyday plans. The area may be pink, warm or tender. Follow your aftercare advice about exercise, heat and anything that rubs the treated skin.
How many sessions are needed for cellulite?
A course is usually needed, commonly starting with four sessions about a month apart. The number depends on the area, the pattern of cellulite and how the skin responds. You will know the proposed number and spacing before you start, and progress is reviewed along the way.
When should I start before a beach holiday?
Think in months rather than days. The sessions are spaced apart and improvement continues afterwards, so a consultation several months before you travel gives you more time to plan. ONDA can fit around everyday life, but it is not a last-minute smoothing treatment.
How long will the improvement last?
The change can last beyond the course, but cellulite is influenced by skin ageing, hormones and changes in weight. Further treatment may help if dimpling becomes more noticeable again. There is no fixed maintenance schedule that suits everyone; review what has changed before booking more.
Will ONDA make my bum smaller?
It can reduce fat as well as affect skin texture, so this is worth discussing before treatment. If you want to keep your fullness, say so. Dr Alex can assess whether ONDA, a different approach or a combination best fits the result you want.
How does ONDA compare with subcision and Lanluma?
ONDA works from outside the skin and suits people seeking a non-invasive improvement across an area. Subcision releases individual bands pulling dimples down, while Lanluma stimulates collagen. The latter treatments involve needles or a cannula and a different recovery. The shape and depth of your dimples help guide the choice.
Will losing weight or doing more squats fix it?
Neither reliably removes cellulite. Losing excess weight or building muscle may change how the area looks, but the bands beneath the skin and skin quality also matter. If you are already happy with your size, you do not need to make weight loss the goal of a cellulite consultation.
