Does this sound familiar?
When your hands start looking a little more bony
You see your hands throughout the day. Small changes in their shape can be surprisingly noticeable.
At a glance
The details of hand filler treatment
The change in contour begins during treatment, as support is restored beneath the skin.
The change you can see
Less bony, with smoother contours
Replacing lost volume can reduce the sharp contrast between raised tendons and the hollows beside them.
The backs of your hands can look less skeletal, with veins and tendons less noticeable beneath the skin. Normal hand contours should still show; there is no need to aim for a completely flat surface.
Filler treats the missing support. Brown spots, sun damage and a fine crepey texture may need a separate approach, even when they appear alongside the volume loss. Dr Alex will help you decide which change would make the biggest difference to you.

Choosing a treatment
Is it the shape, the skin or both?
Hand filler is most useful when a loss of soft tissue is making the underlying bones, veins and tendons more visible.
What filler won't change
It won't remove veins or treat arthritis
Filler can make veins and tendons less visible by restoring the tissue over them. It doesn't remove the veins, reshape arthritic joints or treat hand pain. New swelling, pain or an unexplained change in one hand needs medical assessment rather than cosmetic filling.
How it works
Restoring the layer that softens the bony outline
Hyaluronic acid filler adds gel beneath the skin on the back of the hand, replacing some of the volume that has been lost.
When the cushioning beneath the skin thins, tendons and veins become easier to see and the spaces between the bones can look more sunken. Filler replaces some of that missing support, making the changes in contour less abrupt.
The gel occupies space in the soft tissue over the deeper structures. It doesn't remove a vein or alter the bones; it makes their outlines less obvious through the skin.
Dr Alex assesses the hollows across the back of each hand so the correction blends into the surrounding contour.

Why Dr Alex
Why choose Dr Alex for hand filler?
Dr Alex teaches doctors, dentists and nurses across several dermal filler ranges. Alongside that broader teaching work, he is currently a trainer for Evolus's Estyme filler range. He has also created filmed filler-injection education for MaiLi's international professional audience.
For your hands, he'll look at the missing support and the skin separately. Filling a hollow may soften the bony appearance, but adding more filler won't remove a brown spot. Knowing which treatment addresses each change helps you choose where to start.
He'll also take account of any filler already present. A result can fade without all the product having disappeared, so another treatment starts with an assessment.

Side effects and suitability
What should you allow for after hand filler?
Temporary swelling, bruising, tenderness or stiffness can make some hand activities less comfortable while the area settles.
Possible side effects
Lumps, unevenness, infection and delayed inflammation are possible. Tell Dr Alex about any condition affecting the joints, tendons, nerves or circulation in your hands before treatment.
An injection that blocks a blood vessel can damage the surrounding tissue. This is uncommon but needs urgent attention.
When to get urgent advice
Contact SONÜ immediately for unusual or increasing pain, pale, grey or mottled skin, or fingers becoming cold or numb. Seek urgent medical care if you cannot reach the clinic. Breathing difficulty or rapidly developing facial or throat swelling requires emergency help - call 999.
When treatment needs to be postponed
Active infection, inflamed or broken skin needs assessment before treatment. Discuss allergies, medicines, bleeding problems, previous filler reactions, pregnancy or breastfeeding and any relevant health condition with Dr Alex.
You can ask about alternatives and decide whether the likely improvement is worth having for you.
Treatment costs
How much does hand filler cost?
Treatment starts from £400 for the first 1 ml. We’ll agree the amount, areas and total cost with you before treatment.
