Smoother skin, fuller curves

Lanluma in Hale, Altrincham

Lanluma stimulates your own collagen to improve crepey skin, soften selected dimples and gradually add shape and fullness where you'd like it.

You can like your overall shape and still wish a particular dip, dimple or patch of crepey skin was less obvious. Lanluma offers a way to improve those areas gradually, with results that develop as your body makes new collagen.

That might mean a smoother curve at your hips, more fullness in your bottom or firmer-looking skin on your neck, arms or thighs. The treatment can be adapted for skin quality, volume or a combination of the two.

Dr Alex will assess the area you have in mind and explain the sort of change Lanluma could make for you.

What would you like to change?

A little more shape, or smoother-looking skin

You might be interested in adding fullness to one area and improving the skin in another. Those goals need different treatment plans.

You'd like a fuller, smoother curve

A dip at the side of your hips interrupts the shape you'd like, or your bottom looks flatter than it used to. You're interested in a gradual improvement in contour and fullness that still suits your body.

Your skin has become more crepey

The skin on your neck, arms or thighs looks thinner, looser or more crinkly. Even your knees seem to have joined in. You'd like it to look smoother and feel firmer, without necessarily making the area bigger.

Dimples are the bit that bothers you

You're comfortable with your size, but the cellulite or individual dents on your bottom or legs bother you. You'd like a more even surface and want to know whether treating the dimples could help.

The practical details

Lanluma treatment at a glance

Your plan depends on whether we're improving skin quality, adding volume or treating dimples. The recovery can differ too.

Treatment costs
From £900
For selected skin-quality and cellulite treatments. Buttock and hip-dip shaping starts at £1,000 for one vial of Lanluma X.
Results develop
Over 3-6 months
The lasting improvement develops gradually. Early fullness from treatment fluid and swelling settles before the collagen result builds.
Recovery
Depends on the treatment
Swelling, soreness and bruising can occur. Cellulite treatment with subcision can leave substantial bruising for around two weeks.
Treatment course
Planned after assessment
More than one session may be recommended. Dr Alex will explain the amount, spacing and likely overall cost for your goal.
Aftercare
Massage and time to settle
You'll be shown how to massage the treated area and given instructions on exercise, skincare and recovery for your procedure.

The change you're aiming for

More support beneath the skin

Lanluma can improve the skin's firmness and texture, or build fullness to soften a dip and improve a contour. How it's used depends on what you want to change.

For crepey skin, the aim is a smoother surface with better underlying support. This can be useful on areas such as the neck, upper arms and thighs, where the skin has become less firm. Adding noticeable size isn't always the goal.

For the buttocks and hip dips, treatment can gradually add fullness and soften the transition between neighbouring areas. Dr Alex aims for a result that looks and moves naturally with your body.

You may see an immediate change for up to around 72 hours, largely from the fluid used to prepare Lanluma and the initial swelling. That early fullness then settles. It doesn't mean the treatment has failed: the collagen-related improvement develops over the following three to six months.

The amount of change varies with your starting point, the treatment plan and your response. Progress is assessed over months, allowing time to see what each stage has achieved before deciding whether more would help.

Different uses for Lanluma

What does the area actually need?

Loose skin, missing volume and a dimple pulled down from underneath can look similar at first glance. Dr Alex examines the cause before choosing how to treat it.

Crepey skin and mild laxity
Dr Alex uses Lanluma to improve skin quality in selected areas of the face and body, including the neck, chest, upper arms, hands, abdomen, thighs and knees. It's most useful when the improvement you want is within reach of collagen stimulation.
Hip dips and localised volume loss
Treatment can add fullness to selected hollows and improve the shape of the buttocks or hips. Dr Alex also assesses other contour irregularities, including some dents after liposuction. Scar tissue, skin quality and the amount of missing volume affect what's possible.
Cellulite and tethered dimples
For suitable cellulite dimples, Dr Alex first uses subcision to release the bands pulling the skin down. Lanluma is then used for collagen stimulation, with a little extra volume where a deeper indent needs it. This combined treatment has its own recovery needs.

The scale of change

When surgery may be a better fit

Lanluma won't remove a substantial amount of loose skin or create the large increase in buttock size possible with surgery. If that's the change you want, a surgical assessment is more useful than trying to achieve it through repeated injections.

Hip dips are also a normal part of body shape. Treatment may soften them, but your pelvis and the way the surrounding tissues sit still influence the contour. The aim is an improvement that suits you, rather than a promise to erase every dip or dimple.

Collagen stimulation

Your body builds the collagen over time

Lanluma contains poly-L-lactic acid, usually shortened to PLLA. It is an injectable material that stimulates collagen production in the treated tissue.

Collagen gives skin and the tissue beneath it structure and support. Lanluma's PLLA particles encourage a response that produces new collagen as the injected material gradually breaks down. That is why the result takes time to develop.

The injected product is a manufactured material; the collagen your body makes in response is your own. Depending on the treatment plan, that response can improve skin quality, add volume or do both.

Hyaluronic acid filler works mainly by adding gel volume directly. Dr Alex prefers Lanluma for selected body-shaping goals because he wants a gradual build-up of your own tissue. It also means treatment cannot simply be dissolved in the way HA filler can, so the amount of change you want needs discussing before you start.

Your treatment visit

From assessing the area to looking after it

Dr Alex plans and carries out your treatment. The appointment and numbing approach depend on the area and whether subcision is part of the procedure.

Assessment

Look at the shape and the skin

You'll show Dr Alex what you'd like to improve and discuss the size of change you're hoping for. He'll examine the skin and underlying tissue, review your medical history and ask about previous injections or surgery in the area.
Preparation

Numb the area where needed

For cellulite treatment, Dr Alex uses local anaesthetic containing lidocaine before releasing the dimples. He finds buttock and hip-dip treatment generally manageable too, and will explain the comfort measures for your particular procedure. You can still feel pressure or some discomfort.
Treatment

Treat for the change you've agreed

Lanluma is injected into the selected areas. If a cellulite dimple needs releasing, subcision comes first. For buttock or hip-dip treatment, Dr Alex can use ultrasound to check placement when needed; it isn't a routine part of every appointment.
Afterwards

Learn the aftercare before you leave

Dr Alex will show you the massage routine and explain how long to follow it. You'll also receive instructions on exercise and other activities, along with how to contact the clinic. If you've had subcision, plan for potentially noticeable bruising over the next two weeks.

Teaching, advising and treating

Why choose Dr Alex for Lanluma?

Dr Alex has trained other medical professionals in Lanluma and previously served on its medical advisory board. His experience includes international training in Barcelona, presenting on Lanluma at CCR London and writing published articles about the treatment, including for Sinclair Insider.

In clinic, he uses Lanluma for both skin quality and body contouring. That includes assessing whether a dimple needs releasing, a hollow needs volume or loose skin needs a different approach. For cellulite, his treatment combines subcision with collagen stimulation rather than relying on volume alone.

He'll explain what he thinks is achievable in your particular area, how gradually it will develop and whether the likely improvement matches what you're hoping for. A preference for Lanluma doesn't mean it has to be the answer to every concern.

Recovery and risks

What should you allow for afterwards?

Swelling, tenderness, redness and bruising can follow Lanluma treatment. Recovery depends on the area, the amount treated and whether you've also had subcision.

Possible side effects

Cellulite treatment can cause fairly extensive bruising because of the release work beneath the skin. Dr Alex advises allowing around two weeks for this, sometimes longer. Bruising and soreness can also occur after other Lanluma treatments, so arrange important events with that in mind.

Lumps or nodules can develop, sometimes months after treatment, and may persist or need further treatment. Infection, inflammatory reactions and uneven results are also possible. Injecting into a blood vessel can cause serious harm, including damage to the skin; Dr Alex will explain the risks relevant to your treatment area.

Lanluma cannot be dissolved with the enzyme used for HA filler. Careful assessment, treatment technique and aftercare matter, but no injection procedure is free of risk. Tell Dr Alex about any persistent lump or change rather than assuming it will settle by itself.

When to get help

Contact the clinic urgently for severe or increasing pain, unusual pale or dusky skin, rapidly worsening swelling, spreading redness or discharge. Sudden changes in vision need immediate emergency assessment. Call 999 for difficulty breathing, throat swelling or collapse, and tell the treating team what procedure you've had.

When treatment may need to wait

Treatment is generally deferred during pregnancy or breastfeeding and where there is an active infection in the area. Dr Alex will also review allergies, medical conditions, medicines, any history of problematic scarring and previous filler or implants. Some of these may change the plan or make another option more suitable.

You can ask questions, take time to think or decide not to go ahead.

Your questions

Questions about Lanluma

The answers depend partly on what you're treating. Here are the main differences to understand before booking.

Where can Lanluma be used?
Dr Alex uses it for selected areas of the face and body, including the neck, décolletage or upper chest, arms, hands, abdomen, thighs, knees, buttocks and hip dips. The goal may be skin quality, volume or both. Suitability depends on the tissue in that particular area and what you'd like to change.
Is Lanluma the same as Sculptra or HA filler?
Lanluma and Sculptra both use PLLA to stimulate collagen, but they are different products with their own preparation and treatment plans. HA filler mainly adds volume through the gel itself. Lanluma builds its result gradually through collagen stimulation and cannot simply be dissolved like HA filler. Dr Alex will explain which approach suits the area and your goals.
Is this a non-surgical BBL?
You may see it described that way, but Lanluma isn't a Brazilian butt lift with fat transfer. It can give a more modest improvement in buttock shape and fullness without liposuction or transferring fat. If you want a much larger change, a consultation with an appropriately qualified plastic surgeon may be more useful. Both approaches have risks and need proper assessment.
Can Lanluma smooth cellulite without making my bottom bigger?
That can be the aim. For suitable tethered dimples, Dr Alex releases the bands pulling down on the skin with subcision, then uses Lanluma mainly for collagen stimulation. A deeper dent may also benefit from some volume. The goal is a smoother surface; extra buttock size doesn't have to be part of the plan. Allow for bruising from the subcision.
Can it help uneven dents after liposuction?
Sometimes. Dr Alex has used it for selected depressions after liposuction, including on the thighs. He'll first assess whether missing volume, scar tissue or loose skin is causing the unevenness. Lanluma won't correct every type of post-surgical irregularity, and some need a surgeon's assessment. Bring details of your previous procedure if you have them.
Why does the first result seem to disappear?
The immediate fullness is mainly treatment fluid and swelling, which can settle over the first few days. The longer-term effect comes from new collagen, so there's a gap before it becomes noticeable. Dr Alex usually assesses the developing result over three to six months. An early return towards your starting shape doesn't, on its own, mean treatment hasn't worked.
How many sessions will I need, and how long will it last?
More than one session may be needed, depending on the area and amount of improvement you're seeking. Dr Alex will recommend a course and review the response before deciding on further treatment. The result can be long-lasting, but the duration varies by area and treatment plan. Later maintenance depends on how the improvement holds and whether you would benefit from further treatment.
Does treatment hurt, and will I be bruised?
Some discomfort is possible, but Dr Alex generally finds buttock and hip-dip treatment manageable. He numbs cellulite areas with local anaesthetic before subcision. You may feel pressure during treatment and soreness afterwards. Bruising can be particularly noticeable after subcision and may last around two weeks or longer; other Lanluma treatments can bruise too.
What do I need to do afterwards?
Follow the massage routine Dr Alex shows you and the written advice for your treatment area. You'll need to pause some activities, including strenuous exercise, while the area settles. Dr Alex will explain when you can restart them. Ask before returning to anything you're unsure about, particularly after subcision. Contact the clinic if symptoms worsen rather than gradually settle.
Can Lanluma be dissolved if I change my mind?
No. It can't be dissolved with hyaluronidase, the enzyme used for HA filler. The injected material gradually breaks down, while the collagen response develops over time. If a lump, unevenness or another concern develops, it needs assessment and may require treatment. It's important to agree a realistic goal before starting, rather than treating dissolution as a backup plan.
