Calmer skin, fewer angry spots

Dermalux LED for acne in Hale, Altrincham

Help calm inflamed breakouts with Dermalux LED light therapy - a comfortable, needle-free treatment that supports clearer skin over a course, with no downtime.

Spots are quite capable of outstaying their teenage welcome. And when your skin is breaking out and feeling sensitive, piling on another strong product doesn't always feel like the answer.

Dermalux uses carefully selected colours of LED light to target bacteria involved in acne and help calm inflammation. You relax under the light while it works, then get on with your day. At SONÜ, we use Dermalux Flex as part of a plan for fewer inflamed spots and more settled skin.

What brings you in?

When your skin keeps breaking out

Acne can be frustrating whether it is new, comes and goes, or has been following you around for years.

One spot settles and another appears

It can feel as though your cheeks or chin never quite get a break. You'd like fewer red, inflamed spots and less time trying to cover the latest arrival.

Your skin is spotty and sensitive

Some acne products leave your skin feeling dry or sore. You're looking for another way to help manage breakouts without adding a scrub, peel or extraction to every visit.

You want a treatment you can fit in

You'd like to work on your acne without setting aside recovery days. A comfortable session followed by your usual routine has an obvious appeal.

What can improve?

Fewer inflamed spots, more settled skin

Dermalux can help reduce inflammatory breakouts and the redness around them.

Look for fewer new angry spots, existing breakouts settling, and skin that looks less inflamed. These changes build with repeated sessions over the course.

We'll review how your skin responds alongside the rest of your acne care. Breakouts can return, particularly when hormonal or other drivers remain, and some people benefit from ongoing treatment or maintenance.

Is it right for you?

Where Dermalux can fit into acne care

Dermalux can be used on its own for suitable acne or alongside other treatment.

You have recurring inflamed spots
Red bumps and pustules are the main concern, rather than only blackheads or old scars. We can assess whether LED is likely to make a worthwhile difference.
You need a tolerable treatment plan
Your skin has struggled with some previous products or procedures. We'll look at your current routine and whether Dermalux can fit without making it more complicated.
You can attend regular sessions
LED works cumulatively. A schedule you can realistically keep to is more useful than an ambitious course that becomes another chore.

When more treatment is needed

Deep, painful or scarring acne needs medical care

If you're developing deep lumps, cysts or scars, don't rely on LED alone. Your GP or dermatologist can offer treatments that address more severe acne and reduce the risk of lasting damage. Dermalux may still have a supporting role, but it shouldn't delay the care you need.

How it works

Different colours, different jobs

Blue light targets bacteria involved in acne; red and near-infrared light can help support calmer skin and repair.

Dermalux Flex provides blue, red and near-infrared wavelengths, with the combination chosen for your skin. The blue light acts on naturally occurring compounds within acne-associated bacteria. Red and near-infrared light act on skin cells involved in inflammation and recovery.

This is LED phototherapy: no UV, no needles and no removal of the skin surface.

Your appointment

A chance for you and your skin to take a breather

There's no need to grit your teeth through an acne treatment. Dermalux is designed to be comfortable.

Before the course

Understand your breakouts

We'll ask how long you've had acne, what you've tried and what you currently use. Bring details of medicines and supplements, as well as your skincare.
At your session

Prepare your skin and protect your eyes

The skin needs to be clean and free from makeup and products. We check suitability, arrange any light-sensitivity testing and fit protective eyewear before treatment.
During treatment

Relax under the light

The LED panel sits above the treatment area. You may feel gentle warmth, but treatment shouldn't be painful. Let us know if you feel uncomfortable or develop a headache.
Afterwards

Carry on with your day

You can usually return to your normal plans immediately. We'll advise on skincare and SPF, then agree the next session and when to review your progress.

Why Dr Alex

Why choose SONÜ for Dermalux acne treatment?

Dr Alex's medical approach starts with the acne itself: the type of spots, whether they're leaving scars, and what has or hasn't helped before. He'll explain where LED could help and how it fits with your current care.

Your course at SONÜ includes a review of how your skin is responding, so you can judge whether the changes are worthwhile. If prescription treatment or a dermatologist is the more useful next step, Dr Alex will say so.

Safety and suitability

Gentle treatment still deserves a proper check

Dermalux is generally well tolerated, and routine recovery time is not expected.

Possible side effects

Temporary warmth, tingling or redness can occur, and some people develop a headache. Light-sensitive reactions and pigment changes are also possible in susceptible skin. We assess relevant medical conditions and medicines, choose the light programme and use protective eyewear.

Tell us about previous reactions to light, epilepsy, eye conditions and any tendency to develop dark marks. Don't stop prescribed acne treatment yourself to prepare for a session.

When to get urgent help

Seek prompt medical advice for severe or worsening skin pain, blistering, or spreading redness with fever or feeling unwell. Eye pain or a change in vision also needs urgent assessment. These are not normal signs that an LED treatment is working.

When Dermalux may not be suitable

Epilepsy, certain light-sensitive conditions, active cancer and medicines that cause photosensitivity can rule out treatment. We also defer during pregnancy and breastfeeding in line with manufacturer guidance. Eye conditions, recent procedures and irritated or sunburnt skin need discussion before proceeding.

You can pause a session at any point, and we'll review the plan if your skin isn't improving.

We'll recommend how often to attend and when to review your skin. The six-session package offers a lower price per visit; the number of treatments you need depends on your acne and response.

Your questions

Dermalux and acne: the details that help

From hormonal breakouts to home masks, here is what to consider before choosing a course.

Does Dermalux help hormonal acne?
It can help the inflamed spots that occur with hormonal acne, but it doesn't change your hormones. If breakouts repeatedly follow your cycle or persist around the jawline, that pattern helps guide the wider treatment plan. LED can be useful alongside it.
How many sessions will I need, and how often?
Acne usually needs a course of regular sessions rather than occasional treatment. We'll recommend a schedule based on your skin, other treatment and availability, with a review to see whether it is helping. The exact frequency and number will be agreed before you commit.
How soon should I expect a difference?
Judge improvement over several weeks of consistent treatment, not just the mirror after one visit. The aim is fewer inflamed spots and less redness over time. If acne is getting worse, becoming painful or leaving scars, we should review the plan sooner.
Can I have Dermalux while using acne medication?
Sometimes, but we need to check the exact medicine and your skin's condition first. Some acne treatments increase light sensitivity or irritation. Tell us about prescription creams, antibiotics, isotretinoin and supplements, and don't stop or alter them without advice from your prescriber.
Will it clear blackheads and whiteheads?
LED is usually a better fit for inflamed acne than a complexion mainly affected by blocked pores. Blackheads and whiteheads may need a different skincare or medical approach. We can discuss what is likely to help the type of acne you have.
Will Dermalux remove acne scars or dark marks?
It doesn't resurface indented scars. Helping control active acne is the first priority; established scars and lingering pigment need a separate assessment once breakouts are settled. We can then discuss treatments such as microneedling or laser where appropriate.
Is Dermalux suitable for darker skin?
It can be used across skin tones, with the programme chosen for your skin. Tell us if spots or treatments tend to leave dark marks. Blue light can cause pigment changes in susceptible skin, so your pigmentation history is part of deciding the right approach.
Can it treat acne on the back or chest?
The flexible Dermalux panel can treat body areas as well as the face. Tell us which areas are affected when enquiring so we can confirm suitability, appointment arrangements and cost. Deep or widespread body acne may also need medical treatment.
Is a clinic treatment better than my home LED mask?
A suitable home device can be useful when used consistently. At the clinic, the benefit is having your acne assessed, a light programme selected and progress reviewed. Devices differ in wavelength, dose and treatment instructions, so bring the details of yours if you'd like to discuss how it fits.
Can I wear makeup and go out afterwards?
Usually, yes. Dermalux itself doesn't require a day at home or leave a peeling recovery period. We'll advise you if your skin is irritated or another treatment changes the aftercare. Choose makeup that doesn't clog pores and remove it gently at the end of the day.
