Jawline treatment at SONÜ

Nefertiti lift in Hale, Altrincham

Help restore a more defined jawline and the elegant lines of your neck by relaxing the muscles pulling them down.

Your jawline used to look a little sharper. Now the lower face seems heavier or more jowly, and you miss the definition between your face and neck. You might notice it most in a side-on photo or when the muscles in your neck tighten.

A Nefertiti lift uses Botox to relax some of that downward pull, helping define the jawline and soften prominent neck bands. Dr Alex will assess whether a mini treatment along the jawline is enough, or whether treating the neck bands too would give you more of the change you want.

What you have noticed

Missing a little definition along your jaw?

Sometimes a change in the lower-face outline is more noticeable than any individual wrinkle.

The edge of your jaw looks less sharp

You'd like a more defined jawline. The change may be small, but it's something you notice in photographs or when you turn towards the mirror.

Your lower face looks more jowly

There is a little more heaviness beside your chin than there used to be. You want to know whether Botox could improve the appearance or whether something else would help more.

Your neck bands stand out too

Coronation Street fans may recognise the 'Deirdre neck' description. If those vertical bands stand out as well as your jawline looking less defined, full Nefertiti treatment may be the better fit.

The result

A more defined jawline and an elegant neckline

Relaxing the downward muscle pull can help define your jawline, while treating the neck bands can restore a smoother, more elegant neckline.

With a mini Nefertiti treatment, the aim is a more defined jawline and less of a pulled-down appearance to the lower face. Full treatment also softens the visible neck bands, helping the neck look smoother when you speak or smile.

Fat, loose skin and loss of support can all contribute to jowls. Those changes don't disappear when a muscle relaxes, so Dr Alex will explain how much of your concern this treatment can address.

Could it help?

What is making your jawline look heavier?

Muscle activity is one possible contributor. The assessment looks at the others too.

You mainly want more jawline definition
If muscle pull is blunting the jawline but neck bands aren't a concern, a mini Nefertiti treatment may be enough. This focuses on injection points along the jawline.
Your neck bands stand out as well
If you would like more jawline definition and softer neck bands, full Nefertiti treatment may be recommended. It adds treatment of the vertical platysmal bands to the jawline treatment.
You want to compare non-surgical options
You may be choosing between Botox, HIFU or filler. They address different causes of a less defined jawline; you don't need to arrive knowing which one you need.

The name and the result

It is not a surgical neck lift

A Nefertiti lift doesn't remove loose skin, reduce a double chin or replace lost structural support. Marked sagging usually needs a different approach, and surgery gives a much greater change when excess skin is the main concern.

How it works

Reducing the downward pull beneath the jaw

The platysma is a thin sheet of muscle that extends from the neck into the lower face.

When it contracts, the platysma can pull down on the lower-face tissues and make the jawline look less defined. Botox relaxes selected parts of that muscle to reduce the pull.

Mini Nefertiti treatment focuses on points along the jawline. Full Nefertiti treatment also targets the vertical bands in the neck. Neither removes fat or excess skin; the change comes from relaxing the muscle activity that affects the jawline and neck.

Your appointment

Start with the jawline you would like to see

Dr Alex will explain whether relaxing the neck muscle can help with that change.

Consultation

Talk about definition, jowls and your priorities

You'll discuss which part of the lower face bothers you, previous treatments and your medical history. Mention any neck weakness or swallowing problems.
Assessment

See what changes as the neck moves

Dr Alex will look at your jawline, skin, underlying support and platysma activity. He will explain the proposed area of treatment and whether a mini or full Nefertiti treatment is appropriate.
Treatment

Target the muscle pull

If you proceed, small injections are placed along the jawline and, for full treatment, into the neck bands too. You may feel brief stings at the injection points.
Afterwards

Watch the outline change gradually

The result develops over about two weeks. You'll receive aftercare advice and can contact the clinic if you have questions about the appearance or any change in neck function.

Why Dr Alex

Toxin experience, with a realistic eye for the result

Dr Alex trains doctors, dentists and nurses in medical aesthetics and has presented clinical education on toxin at UK conferences, including the British College of Aesthetic Medicine conference. He is an international Key Opinion Leader and Advocate for Evolus, a company supplying botulinum toxin treatments.

A less defined jawline can have several causes. Dr Alex also treats lower-face concerns with approaches such as HIFU and filler, so the consultation can compare muscle pull with skin laxity and loss of support.

The recommendation should follow what is making your jawline look different, and the degree of change you want to see.

Safety

What should you know about neck Botox?

Treatment needs to account for the nearby muscles involved in neck movement and swallowing.

Possible side effects

Temporary redness, tenderness or bruising can follow the injections. Unwanted effects can include an uneven smile, neck weakness, or changes in swallowing or voice if other muscles are affected.

After full Nefertiti treatment, some people notice that lifting their head from lying flat takes more effort - for example, getting out of bed or during yoga or Pilates. You may still turn and move your head normally, but lifting it off the pillow feels heavier. Let the clinic know if you notice this.

Tell Dr Alex about existing swallowing problems, previous neck surgery and any nerve or muscle condition. These can change whether treatment is appropriate.

When to get urgent advice

Seek urgent medical assessment for new difficulty swallowing or speaking, marked neck weakness, difficulty keeping your head upright, or widespread weakness. Call 999 for breathing difficulty or swelling of the tongue or throat.

When another plan is needed

Treatment is generally deferred during pregnancy or breastfeeding or with an infection in the treatment area. Previous serious toxin reactions, nerve or muscle conditions and relevant medicines require assessment. Significant neck weakness or swallowing difficulties may make treatment unsuitable.

Dr Alex will explain the expected change and relevant risks before you decide.

Your questions

Questions about the Nefertiti lift

How it changes the jawline, and where another treatment may do more.

What is a Nefertiti lift?
It is a Botox treatment that relaxes downward muscle pull to help define the jawline and, with full treatment, soften the neck bands. It takes its name from the Egyptian queen Nefertiti, famous for her elegant neck and neckline.
Does a Nefertiti lift get rid of jowls?
It may soften a jowly appearance where muscle pull contributes, but it doesn't remove jowls caused by fat, loose skin or lost support. Dr Alex will assess how much improvement Botox could give in your case.
What is the difference between mini and full Nefertiti treatment?
Mini Nefertiti treatment uses points along the jawline and may also include the muscles at the mouth corners or chin, where appropriate. Full treatment adds the vertical platysmal bands in the neck. If it is mainly jawline definition you want to improve, mini may be enough. If neck bands stand out too, full treatment is more likely to be recommended.
Is it the same as platysmal-band Botox?
Full Nefertiti treatment includes the neck bands as well as the jawline. A band-focused treatment addresses the visible vertical cords on their own. If both your jawline and neck bands bother you, Dr Alex can assess them together.
Will it reduce a double chin?
No. Botox does not remove the fat beneath your chin. If fullness there is your main concern, a separate assessment can establish which options are suitable.
Can it treat horizontal neck lines?
Those lines are different from vertical muscle bands. A Nefertiti lift is not primarily a treatment for horizontal creases or crepey skin. Dr Alex can discuss skin treatments where they would better address the concern.
When will I see the result and how long will it last?
Allow around two weeks for the effect to develop. Results tend to last around 3-4 months on average, with muscle activity returning gradually. The amount of visible definition depends on how much of the original change was muscle-related.
Is Botox or HIFU better for the jawline?
Botox reduces muscle pull; HIFU is used for selected concerns involving firmness, mild laxity and, in appropriate areas, fat. Neither gives the skin removal of surgery. Dr Alex will recommend according to the cause of your concern.
Will I need time off work?
Most people return to ordinary work afterwards. Small injection marks or bruising can be visible. You'll receive advice about exercise and aftercare, and should allow the result to develop before judging it.
Can I combine it with other treatments?
Sometimes, where the treatments address different contributors to the result you want. Dr Alex will explain the purpose, timing and cost of each recommendation rather than assuming a combination is necessary.
